In the summer of 1952 I went to see "Scaramouche" at the Ambassador Theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina. (Alas, the Ambassador no longer exists.) After I saw the movie, Janet Leigh became one of my favorite film stars. At the time she was under contact with MGM and played mainly light, pretty roles. Later she began playing "tough cookies" (for instance, in "Touch of Evil"
and her acting improved along with the stronger image. I´ve always thought she was a highly underrated actress and should have won the Oscar for "Psycho".
Happy Birthday, Miss Leigh!
