Stanwyck Ruled! And I liked Lady of Burlesque too. Her acting ability, like Ida Lupino´s was so unmannered and unpretentious. You could not say the same thing about Bette Davis or Joan Crawford. If Stanwyck had signed with a major studio and not freelanced, she would have won an Oscar for sure!!!!

The birth date is incorrect in her biography on this page, it should read 16th July 1907, and her second name was Katharine with a K

Just the greatest and most underrated actress of all time. The Acadamy should hold its head in shame that they never awarded her a Best Actress Oscar. She should have won for The Lady Eve and unbelievably she was not even nominated for it, although she was nominated the same year for Ball of Fire. I have seen 87 of her 88 films and was lucky enough to meet her at The Lincoln Centre tribute in 1981. She was as lovely and gracious as I had always knew she would be and even suggested that we had our photo taken together. I am glad to see that 14 years after her death she is now recognised as one of the most unique and gifted actresses of her era.

Barbara Stanwyck was simply the finest and most under-rated actress in American film. Bar none.
